Farmers / Farm Consultants
These information services offer useful applications for farmers and farm consultants helping them to optimize cultivation and irrigation techniques, seeding and fertilizing time and to choose the crop variety for given soil and water conditions. The services support farmers to cope with the high vulnerability of agriculture to climate extremes and to optimize their resource management. Optimised cultivation techniques depend on weather and climate data, therefore these data are part of the presented models, but they are also accessible directly via links to weather services. Financial losses resulting from high costs for resources or damages due to overexploitation (e.g. salinisation) and crop failure may be reduced or fully avoided. Profitability is increased by improved decision making ability and reduced costs.
