Water
This sector provides general information on the topic water as an endangered natural resource. Useful links and research results for north-western Morocco are included as well.
The hydrological cycle demonstrates the essential role of water in various fields of nature and ecosystems, but also for specific anthropogenic purposes. Mankind uses water in economy (e.g. industrial and food production), to produce energy (e.g. hydropower), for domestic (e.g. washing, potable water) and for recreative purposes. The total renewable freshwater resource of a country is the total volume of river run-off and groundwater recharge generated annually by precipitation, plus the total volume of actual flow of rivers coming from neighbouring territories. Water additionally is stored in lakes and reservoirs for supplementation. Natural storages are e.g. icecaps or fossil groundwater.
